Unvending is a large-scale project that repurposes a variety of vending machines into portable art dispensary locations, creating unique venues of art installation both inside and out of the gallery. The goal is to create a hub of site-specific art activity in and around Minneapolis (and beyond!), bringing together a variety of artists,machine hosting sites, and artworks into one lively and tactile community! We are in the process of buying and refurbishing a variety of machines, and currently have two types -- The Basic and The Condom Dispensary. Unvending installations are context-conscious, containing artworks that are aware of both the machine in which they are held and the location in which the machine is being hosted.
This project presents the Unvending brand, and its application to the first Unvending machine.
